Managing site activities remotely across renewable energy portfolios can be a complex operation, and following KUDO’s on-going engagement with the wider industry over the past few months, it has become apparent that some operators are experiencing similar challenges with regards to the systems they have in place to support day-to-day asset management operations, specifically :
User interfaces designed to present live and historical data in concise and simple formats are often awkward to navigate, and lack appropriate prompts for operator actions.
Task workflows for performing maintenance operations can be either too prescriptive or too generic, failing to offer the necessary flexibility for users depending on project or portfolio specific requirements.
KUDO’s ‘Command’ product addresses these challenges through a simple and intuitive user-interface, allowing users to facilitate workforce planning, control processing, and real-time visualisation of the current work statuses across projects and portfolios.
The Challenges
Further concerns by some operators were also highlighted to the KUDO team:
‘Why does it take so long to get work started on site?’
Delays and inaccuracy in getting work started can cause safety-critical errors and produce costly delays on site. From the moment personnel arrive on-site, setting up a work party to perform routine or authorised tasks should take no more than two minutes. In KUDO’s experience, this is sufficient time for users to identify personnel, appraise roles and competencies, identify or create the necessary work package and complete any required checks and balances ahead of work commencing.
‘The system works well for some projects, but I have other projects that don’t fit its model’
With a diverse set of projects in a portfolio, an operator needs to manage different approaches and rules applicable to different sites. Using a single system for varying requirements runs the risk of working with a platform which is too generic and doesn’t provide the appropriate levels of process control, or too specific and rigid to fit the varying approaches required.
KUDO Command
Our view is that an effective workforce management system needs to work for all operational sites, regardless of technology, geographical location or any site-specific rules. Workflows should not be compromised or confusing, and a flexible administrative setup that allows for different workflow models to be followed intuitively is essential.
KUDO’s Command product has been designed to simplify work management processes for operators, remote site personnel and asset managers by providing:
•A comprehensive database and workflow process: ensuring all necessary information and steps are readily accessible and easy to follow, ensuring pre-work checks including personnel authorisation can be performed smoothly within the system. Engineers and technicians can be assured that they are on the right job and can get started without delay.
•Integration with other systems: supporting seamless integration with data from other systems facilitates a unified approach to work management. Command takes the details created on real-time work and subsequent completion report information, and makes them available to procurement, maintenance management and safety management systems.
•A flexible administrative setup: allowing for flexible workflow models ensures that varied project requirements are met without compromising usability or efficiency. Users have the ability to customise asset listings, person roles and add or remove workflow stages to support site or industry specific requirements.
By addressing these core concerns, Command enhances usability and efficiency, making workforce and management processes smoother and more effective, wherever your portfolios are in the world.
